Position Details

The Direct Sales Driver is responsible for the Sales, Distribution and Merchandising within an established territory.  Direct Sales Driver will manage truck inventory, drive/deliver, and sell NEIC ice cream, dairy products, and frozen foods to our various customers safely, timely and professionally.  The Direct Sales Driver is also responsible for taking sales orders and stocking merchandise at the point of delivery.  This position offers a base rate plus a generous commission structure.  Please note that candidates must reside within 25 miles of Norton, MA or Haverhill, MA and be central to the territory covered.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive truck to deliver our product to customers.
  • Enterprising and business minded approach to influence and persuade customers in order to close as many sales as possible.
  • Inform customers of new products, upcoming promotions, and price changes.
  • Take inventory of what products are needed and write customer orders on the spot for approval.
  • Organize and stock product within coolers and freezers in an orderly manner.  Follow Plan-o-grams as needed.
  • Listen to and resolve customers’ questions and concerns regarding products or services.
  • Interact professionally with customers to develop working relationships.
  • Monitor foreign product, the general appearance and the cleanliness of cooler and freezer equipment.
  • Maintain and place Point of Sales (POS).
  • Effectively communicate order/customer issues to supervisor at time of delivery.
  • Collect COD/Payment at time of delivery when required.
  • Unload any returns and ensure the proper information on each return and communicate at time of settlement.
  • Responsible for inventory counts on truck and requisition of new stock.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Driving experience required.
  • Sales or Merchandising experience preferred.

 

Skills/Qualifications

  • Ability to drive a 24-foot box truck or similar.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Basic mathematical skills for inventory control
  • Ability to professionally communicate with customers.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate excellent sales and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of sales and food industry a plus.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven
  • Strong multi-tasking, follow-through and organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to problem solve and implement solutions.

  • None

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Routinely required to sit, walk, talk, see, hear and move about our customer’s locations.
  • Ability to reach above head.
  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel and crouch.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 300 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a manual pallet jack.

 

Work Environment

  • Visiting customers across the assigned territory
  • Extensive verbal and hands on working skills
  • Exposure to extreme cold.
